Tobacco Surcharge Removal Opportunity
We are committed to supporting your health and well-being. If you or a covered spouse currently pay the $100 monthly tobacco surcharge, you have the opportunity to have the surcharge removed by participating in Aetna’s Tobacco Cessation Program.
How It Works
Complete Aetna’s Tobacco Cessation Program by October 1 of the current plan year.
Once Aetna confirms your completion:
- Your $100 monthly tobacco surcharge (per covered member) will be removed for the remainder of the plan year.
- If you complete the program by October 1, any tobacco surcharges you paid during the current plan year will be refunded retroactively to January 1.
Participation in this wellness program is voluntary. You are not required to stop using tobacco to qualify for removal of the surcharge—only to successfully complete the cessation program (or an approved reasonable alternative standard, if applicable).
Please refer to the Aetna Tobacco Cessation Program flyer for instructions on how to enroll and complete the program.
Reasonable Alternative Standard
If it is unreasonably difficult due to a medical condition for you to complete Aetna’s Tobacco Cessation Program, or if it is medically inadvisable for you to attempt to complete the program, Beacon Mobility will provide a reasonable alternative standard (or waive the applicable standard) so you have the opportunity to earn the same reward.
If you believe you qualify for a reasonable alternative standard, please contact the Beacon Mobility Benefits Service Center. We will work with you, and if appropriate, your healthcare provider, to identify an alternative that is right for you.
